What types of plugins should I avoid on my WordPress website?
In order to keep your website running smoothly, and to stay away from free hosting limits, we compiled a list of the types of plugins you should avoid using, and why.
Backup/Import plugins
You should stay away from backup and import plugins due to their high requirements for server resources. Instead, set a reminder for yourself to periodically manually backup your website.
All-in-one plugins
All-in-one plugins (Such as Jetpack) are not a good options to use here. In almost all cases, you don’t need every feature that all-in-one plugins provide, and the less resources used, the better.
Alternate Editor Plugins
Editor plugins, such as Elementor are popular for good reason. However they tend to cause high usage, and can require a lot of resources. While using Elementor and similar plugins may be ok on smaller sites with low traffic, it is recommended that you use WordPress’s default editor instead.
Other heavy plugins
Other plugins that require high usage, or plugins that run in the background (Such as backup plugins) are not recommended for use here.
Any other WordPress tips?
Yep! When using WordPress on free hosting, it can be beneficial to disable the auto-update feature and run updates one-at-a-time manually. This will help speed up your website, as well as allow you to easily figure out what plugin update caused an issue should one occur.
