We doubled the limit! Starting in March of 2024, we started increasing the inode limit on all existing and new free hosting accounts to 59,400 inodes!
What is the inode limit?
In all linux filesystems, an inode is a single file or folder existing on the hard drive. Since TinkerHost uses servers powered by linux, we define inode the same way. Every file, and every folder that you upload to TinkerHost is one inode. If you have 59,400 or more files and folders on your account, you have reached the inode limit.
What happens when I reach this limit?
Unlike other fair-use limits on TinkerHost, your account is not suspended when you reach the inode limit. Instead, you are unable to upload or modify files until you get back below the limit.
How can I reduce the number of inode I use?
Since the inode limit is just a measure of the number of files and folders on your account, all you have to do is delete files and folders to reduce the inode count on your site. You can do this by connecting to your website over FTP (Please note that the online file manager is not recommended for this task, as it has difficulty handling large files). For example, we recommend deleting old files, large plugins, and the files of domains that are no longer connected to the account.
After deleting files, please wait 24 hours for the inode counter to update. You won’t be able to upload new files immediately after clearing up space, you have to wait for the system to detect your changes.
How can I get more inode on my account?
While limits on free hosting accounts are set in place and cannot be changed for individual accounts, it is possible to get a higher inode limit by upgrading to premium hosting.
