Why are FileZilla logs useful?
The logs that FileZilla provides allow you to learn additional information about the FTP connection, and what your computer and the server are doing. Both information (status) logs and error logs are helpful in learning more about the transfer (or attempted transfer) of files.
So how do I access these logs?
FileZilla displays logs in the top section of the program. As you login to FTP and transfer files, this box fills with information about the connection.
Because FileZilla automatically hides private information like passwords in the logs, you can safely highlight, then copy and paste the logs without needing to edit out anything.
Wait! I cannot see anything useful getting logged!
Don’t see the logs? You may have logging disabled in the FileZilla settings panel. To enable logging, follow these steps:
- At the top of the program, select edit, then select settings from the dropdown
- Scroll down the sidebar in the new window, and select “Debug”
- Make sure that “Show debug menu” is enabled
- Locate the “Debug information in message log” option, and change it to “2 - Info”
- Click save, then reconnect (or attempt to reconnect) to our FTP server in order to see the logs
