What is a Subdomain?
A subdomain is a domain name that looks like “app.tinkerhost.net” or “mywebsite.thsite.top”. A subdomain includes at least two dots in its URL.
Our free plan supports subdomains from domains you own (Such as subdomain.yourdomain.com). We also provide free domains you can use to create your own subdomain free of charge (Such as subdomain.thsite.top).
What is an Addon Domain?
On the free plan, Addon Domains are custom domains you own. For example, if you buy the domain name example.com and want to add it to an existing free hosting account, you can use the “Addon Domains'' section in the control panel.
Addon Domains are assigned their own htdocs folder, like this: example.com/htdocs. If you want multiple domains to share the same files, add your domain as a Parked Domain instead.
What is a Parked Domain?
On the free plan, Parked Domains are custom domains you own that share the same files as an existing domain on your account (Subdomains cannot be used as Parked Domains at this time).
For example, if you bought the domain cookingschool.example and want it to share the same files as a domain name already on your account (Such as example.com), you should use the Parked Domains section. Add cookingschool.example as the new domain, and select example.com from the dropdown box. Now, both domains will show the files stored in example.com/htdocs.
Parked Domains and WordPress do not work well together, as WordPress will automatically redirect the user to the domain name that it was set up on.
Adding a Custom Domain to your Account
Before you add a custom domain using the Addon Domain or Parked Domain tools, make sure to point your domain to TinkerHost Nameservers! See https://community.tinkerhost.net/forum/d/66-how-to-add-your-custom-domain-to-tinkerhost for more information!
